Russian-Norwegian trade turnover grows to USD 106.8 mln in Jan-Feb

Trade turnover between the Russian Federation and Norway increased by 13.5% to USD 106.8 million in January–February 2017, Russian Minister of Natural Resources and Environment and Co-Chairman of the Russian–Norwegian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Industrial, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation Sergei Donskoy said at a meeting of the commission in Moscow on April 20, 2017.

The meeting participants exchanged information about the economic situation in Russia and Norway, discussed the status of the contractual and legal framework in bilateral cooperation, prospects for interregional and cross-border cooperation as well as industry-based cooperation within the commission.

“In 2013, when we held the last session of the commission, trade turnover totalled USD 2.7 billion. It shrank by 50% to USD 1.4 billion in 2015”, Donskoy said during the commission meeting.

“At the same time, we managed to overcome the negative trends, and positive dynamics were seen in bilateral trade turnover in 2016 and the first two months of 2017. According to Russian statistics, Russian–Norwegian trade turnover increased by 13.5% to USD 106.8 million in January–February 2017 compared with the same period of 2016. Meanwhile, Russian exports grew by 8.6% (to USD 78.8 million), while imports expanded by 30% (to USD 28 million)”, he said.

Donskoy noted that investments by Norway’s Global State Pension Fund in Russian securities had increased by 32.4% to USD 4.9 billion at the start of 2017 compared with the start of 2016.

Russian Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Sergei Donskoy also invited Norwegian Minister of Industry and Trade Monica Mæland and participants of the Russian–Norwegian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Industrial, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation to attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on June 1–3, 2017.
