The Third VESTIFINANCE Forum: Forecasts from Mikhail Zadornov of development of the banking system and from Dmitry Mednikov of the media market outlook

“The Next 20 Years”, a series of lectures dedicated to the outlook for the nation’s comprehensive development over the next few decades, has been launched in Moscow. Mikhail Zadornov, Chairman of the Management Board of Bank VTB24, and Dmitry Mednikov, Deputy General Director of broadcaster VGTRK, were the first experts to share the growth objectives of their respective industries for a generation into the future.

According to Bank VTB24 Chairman of the Management Board Mikhail Zadornov, his bank is not considering serious investments in overseas infrastructure projects, given the dearth of investment available in its own country. In his lecture, Mikhail Zadornov focused on development of Russia’s lending system.

“Mortgage lending will be the key growth driver for Russia’s banking market over the next decade. Mortgages will remain the key growth driver over the next 20 to 30 years too”, he said.

Expert Dmitry Mednikov, one of Russia’s foremost specialists in digital TV development, believes that the media are “the economy’s circulatory system”. He offered the Forum guests his vision of how future audiences’ tastes will be shaped. In his opinion, there are two main target groups today: “35+” (the adaptation generation) and “0–15” (the emerging audience), with the latter poised to set the course for Russia’s economy in the future.

“Content that is easy to understand for people from different countries is promising and profitable. The Russian cultural code is universally acceptable for both the West and the East”, Dmitry Mednikov said.

Russian entrepreneurs, business community representatives, students and lecturers in relevant higher educational institutions attended the Third VESTIFINANCE Forum. Members of the audience were able to ask questions at after-lecture Q&A sessions. The participants were primarily interested in opportunities for overseas expansion available to Russian banks, Russian financial presence in other countries’ infrastructure projects, and the shaping of children’s TV content in light of traditional upbringing and morals.

The event was co-organised by the Roscongress Foundation, with PWC as its Partner and the Newsroom agency as its Operator.

The next session of the VESTIFINANCE Forum dedicated to the future of Russia’s economy will take place on December 9–10 at the Digital October centre.
