Japan to be guest country at SPIEF 2018

Adviser to the Russian President Anton Kobyakov and Japanese Ambassador to the Russian Federation Toyohisa Kozuki held a meeting in Moscow.

During the meeting, Japan confirmed it will take part in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2018 as a guest country led by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe (a proposal had previously been made at the highest level during the third Eastern Economic Forum on 7 September 2017 in Vladivostok).

The officials also discussed various formats for the guest country to take part in Forum events that could fully demonstrate Japan’s unique achievements for the good of the world community. Possible options included providing Japan with a site for the construction of a national pavilion (Italy, India, and Serbia built their own pavilions at previous SPIEF forums), organizing a Russia–Japan roundtable, thematic panel sessions, meetings with representatives of Russian business and the heads of the Russian regions, and holding various cultural events, among other options.

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2018 will take place on 24–26 May 2018.
