Oleg Atkov graduated from Sechenov First Moscow Institute of Medicine in 1973 and had been doing postgraduate trainings in Scientific Institute of Cardiology of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Russia till 1978. Afterwards he worked at A.L. Myasnikov Institute of Clinical Cardiology of the Academy of Sciences. On February 8, 1984 Mr. Atkov made a space flight as a cosmonaut-researcher at the spacecraft “Soyuz T-10”. From 1989 he has been cooperating with International Space University (Department of Space Life Science) in Strasbourg, France as a visiting professor. Since 1991 Oleg Atkov has become the Head of the Instrumental Diagnostic Methods Department of Russian State Medical University. In 2002 he was appointed the Head of the Health Department of the Ministry of Railways of Russian Federation. In 2003 – Head of the Medical Care Department of the JSC “Russian Railways”. Since August 2005 Oleg Atkov had become a vice-president of JSC “Russian Railways”. Mark Kurtser is the founder of the Mother and Child Group of Companies, Chairman of the Group’s Board of Directors, a correspondent member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a doctor of medicine and a professor. He began his career at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the Pirogov Second Moscow State Medical Institute, where he worked his way up from assistant to associate professor of the department. From 1994 to 2012, Kurtser was head of the Family Planning and Reproduction Centre of the Moscow Healthcare Department, the largest obstetrics and gynaecology institution in Moscow. In 2011, he defended his doctoral dissertation. From 2003 to 2013, he was the chief obstetrician and gynaecologist within the Moscow Healthcare Department. The Mother and Child Welfare programme was prepared with his involvement as part of the Municipal Targeted Programme for Healthcare Development for 2006–2007 and guidelines were developed for health and demographic indicators. The level of maternal and perinatal mortality declined in the city. Kurtser is the author of 45 scientific works, more than eleven textbooks and practical guidelines in obstetrics and gynaecology. PhD dissertations are held under his guidance. Kurtser is actively involved in holding conventions and symposiums and also lectures for practicing physicians and residents. He introduces innovative medical technologies to the work of obstetrics and gynaecology in-patient clinics. Kurtser remains actively involved in the activities of the Mother and Child Group both as an executive and as regular medical practitioner.

Steve Rusckowski is Chief Executive Officer of Philips Healthcare and a member of the Board of Management. Before joining Philips, Mr. Rusckowski held numerous management positions within the healthcare division of Hewlett-Packard/Agilent Technologies. He was the General Manager of Agilent’s Healthcare Solutions Group when Philips acquired the business in 2001. Previously, Mr. Rusckowski was the CEO of the Imaging Systems business group of Philips Healthcare. He is a board member of the New England Health Institute, Massachusetts High Tech Council, AdvaMed, Project HOPE and Holy Family Hospital in Massachusetts. Mr. Rusckowski holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and a degree in management science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Veronika Skvortsova was born in Moscow on November 1, 1960. She graduated from the 2nd Pirogov Moscow State Medical Institute in 1983 and completed a Postgraduate Clinical Residency Programme and an Advanced Postgraduate Programme specializing in neuropathology. In 1994, she qualified as a higher category neurologist. After graduating, she worked for the 2nd Moscow State Medical Institute (the Russian State Medical University since 1991) for 25 years. Veronika Skvortsova became head of one of Russia’s first neurology emergency services at Moscow’s 1st municipal hospital established on the basis of the neurology clinic of the 2nd Moscow State Medical Institute in 1989. In 1989–1995, she served as assistant and, in 1995–1997, as assistant professor at the Neuropathology Department of the Russian State Medical University. She became Head of the Fundamental and Clinical Neurology and Neurosurgery Department in 1997. Veronika Skvortsova was appointed Director of the Russian Stroke Research Institute in 2005. She was Deputy Minister of Healthcare and Social Development from 2008 to 2012. Veronika Skvortsova was appointed Minister of Healthcare by Presidential Executive Order No. 650 of May 21, 2012. She is vice-president and co-founder of the National Stroke Association, director of the World Stroke Organization and secretary general of the European Stroke Council. She is a Doctor of Medicine, Professor, and Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. Veronika Skvortsova is an Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation. She has been awarded an Order of Honour and won the Pirogov Prize and Moscow Government Prize in Medicine. She is the author of more than 400 research papers and holds seven patents for her inventions.

Joseph Jimenez has been Chief Executive Officer of Novartis AG since 1 February 2010. Throughout his time as CEO of Novartis, Mr. Jimenez has placed an emphasis on the expansion of the company into developing markets. This includes Russia, where in December 2010, Novartis announced plans to invest $500 million over the next five years. Mr. Jimenez began his career at Novartis in April 2007 as Head of the Novartis Consumer Health Division. He was previously Chief Executive Officer of H.J. Heinz Company in North America In Russia, Mr. Jimenez represents Novartis at the Foreign Investment Advisory Council (FIAC). At present, Novartis is the only pharmaceutical company in the FIAC. Mr. Jimenez received his Bachelor’s Degree from Stanford University in 1982 and was awarded his MBA by the University of California, Berkeley in 1984.

From 1998 to 2000, he was a board member of the State Customs Committee of the Russian Fed-eration. In 1999, he was appointed director of the Personnel Department and a board member of the State Customs Committee and then worked in the State Duma administrative office. From 2000 to 2004, he served as director of pharmaceutical inspections at the Ministry of Healthcare. In 2004, he was appointed deputy director of the Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks (Rospatent). He also took part in the work of a medicine licensing commission of the Federal Service for the Supervision of Public Health and Social Development. Since 2007, he has been the executive director of AIPM.

Dr. Paul Stoffels is Worldwide Chairman Pharmaceuticals with responsibility for Research & Development and Strategic Development. Dr. Stoffels has 20 years global experience in both pharmaceutical and HIV/AIDS R&D. He joined Janssen and worked for four years as Physician/Researcher in Kinshasa (Congo) and Kigali (Rwanda) in the field of HIV/AIDS and infectious diseases. In 1991 he joined the ID team at Janssen in Beerse, Belgium. In 1997, he left Janssen to become CEO of Tibotec-Virco, where he transitioned the company from a technology-based research company into an integrated pharmaceutical R&D organization focused on HIV/AIDS and infectious diseases. Johnson & Johnson acquired Tibotec-Virco in 2002. Dr. Stoffels has a special interest for the health care problems in the developing world, especially Africa, with a focus on developing a new drug for TB and simplified, effective treatment and prevention for HIV. Dr Stoffels studied Medicine at the University of Antwerp and the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium.

Lev Jakobson is a Doctor of Economics, First Vice Rector of the National Research University Higher School of Economics (NRU HSE), a professor of the Department of Applied Economics. He is the research supervisor of the Center for Studies of Civil Society and the Nonprofit Sector at NRU HSE and the director of the International Laboratory for Nonprofit Sector Studies NRU HSE. Dr. Jakobson graduated from the Faculty of Economics, Moscow State University, in 1975. He worked as a senior lecturer, associate professor and professor at the Faculty of Economics from 1975 through 1997. Since 1997 Dr. Jakobson has been Vice Rector and First Vice Rector of the Higher School of Economics, Moscow, Russia. Currently Dr. Jakobson is on the Presidium of the Council for the Implementation of National Priority Projects and Demographic Policy under the President of the Russian Federation. He is a member of the following boards and councils: Presidential Council for Combating Corruption, Expert Council under the Russian Federation Government, Higher Attestation Commission under the Russian Federation Ministry of Education and Science. Dr. Jakobson authored over 300 academic publications in Russian and international journals focusing on issues of public administration, social policy, and finance, including monographs, manuals and educational materials. Dr. Jakobson was decorated with the Order of Honor (2009) and the Order for Services to the Nation, 4th Degree (2012). He was also awarded with two Certificates of Appreciation by the President of the Russian Federation.
