The economic development of the Arctic – particularly as it relates to the sustained extraction of hydrocarbons – will require extensive infrastructure construction, robust transport logistics, new fleets of ice breakers and tankers, as well as communications systems and industrial operations that can stand up to the harsh climate. What technical, scientific and industrial knowhow in the subarctic regions can be leveraged in the development of the North? How are these challenges leading to new innovations in the sector, as well as potentially fostering stronger international and interregional cooperation amongst regional players?
