RUSSIA’S PRESIDENCY IN G20: THE ROLE OF CIVIL SOCIETY IN FORMING THE AGENDA

As Russia assumes the Presidency in the G20 and G8 in 2013 and 2014, respectively, civil society can provide important input into the agenda and outcomes, with particular emphasis on sustainable development and social welfare. What are the key priorities in the G20 agenda for non-governmental organizations, and how might the dialogue with civil society be expanded? Should a Civil 20 and Civil 8 be considered by the Russian government?

We believe that the G20 can be very effective in helping to raise public finance through financial transactions. That’s another means to tackle not only the problem[s] of food security [and] climate change, but also the challenge of the Millennium Development Goals.
