During his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in May 2016, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe offered for Putin’s consideration the eight-point ‘Cooperation Plan for Innovative Reform in Russia’s Industry and Economy’. In accordance with one point headlined ‘Encouraging the diversification of Russia’s manufacturing structure and improving productivity’, measures were taken last year to support 12 Russian companies. As a result, many of these companies were able not only to increase their productivity but also to greatly enhance the quality of their products, which gives hope for closer cooperation with Japanese companies.
